Yuliya Efimova: Olympian suspended for doping

Olympic swimmer Yuliya Efimova has been provisionally suspended from the sport for doping by the aquatic governing body FINA.

FINA stated that the Russian tested positive for the steroid DHEA on 31 October at her training base at the University of Southern California.

Efimova scooped bronze in the 200m in the London 2012 Olympics and set a then-world record of 29.78 seconds in the 50-meter breaststroke at the world championships last August in Barcelona.

Her suspension remains in effect until the FINA doping panel judges her case but if a doping offense is proven, she is likely to keep her medals because the positive test came later.
