Great Britain's Lizzy Yarnold claimed her fourth World Cup skeleton gold medal of the season following victory in Igls, Austria on Friday.

The 25-year-old Kent slider defeated her big American rival Noelle Pikus-Pace by a total of 0.32 seconds as she secured her fourth victory from seven races.

Meanwhile, Austria's Janine Flock and Russia's Maria Orlova shared the bronze.

Victory also extended Yarnold's lead at the top of the World Cup standings to 215 points ahead of Pikus-Pace heading into the final pre-Olympics race in Konigssee, Germany next week.

"I'm really thankful for all the support and I'll just keep doing my best and hopefully it will keep bringing these results."

Yarnold, whose place in the TeamGB squad for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics is expected to be confirmed on Wednesday, has now all but wrapped up the FIBT World Cup title for the season.

Yarnold said: "I could feel the speed and for the first time ever I got corner nine right so I'm really chuffed with that.

"I'm really thankful for all the support and I'll just keep doing my best and hopefully it will keep bringing these results."

Reigning world champion Shelley Rudman continued her consistent season by taking fifth place as she builds up towards her third Winter Games next month.

Meanwhile at the European Short Track Championships in Dresden, reigning champion Elise Christie had to settle for fourth place in the 1500m final with her preferred distance, the 1000m, set to take place on Sunday.
