Siobhan-Marie O'Connor: Won a medal for the second successive year at the European Short Course Championships

Siobhan-Marie O'Connor took the 200m IM silver medal at the European Short Course Championships in Denmark on Thursday in a personal best time.

The Sports Scholar is developing something of an affinity with the Championships having won her first senior international medal at the European Short Course in France last year.

It was bronze 12 months ago but O'Connor went one better in Herning to claim Britain's first medal of the competition.

Earlier in the week, the Bath swimmer told Sky Sports that she was feeling better prepared for the Short Course event than she had in previous years and so it proved as she set a personal best to reach the final, securing a favourable lane draw in the process.

O'Connor took full advantage and a strong finish saw her claim the 200m IM silver medal in another personal best time of 2:06.73, behind the world long course champion Katinka Hosszu and just ahead of GB team-mate Sophie Allen who took bronze.

There was less success for Britain in the 4x50m freestyle final as a team of O'Connor, Allen, Aimee Willmott and Hannah Miley finished ninth, but overall it was a fantastic day for GB and O'Connor in particular.
