Josh Hamilton: Massive contract agreed with the Angels
The Los Angeles Angels have added further power to their glittering line-up with the signing of Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton.
Hamilton will receive $125m across the five years of his deal with the Rangers' American League West rivals, who also have superstar Albert Pujols and rookie sensation Mike Trout in their line-up.
They have also bulked up their pitching since the end of the 2012 season, which saw them miss the play-offs, by signing starters Joe Blanton and Tommy Hanson and relief stars Sean Burnett and Ryan Madson.
Hamilton was AL Most Valuable Player in 2010 and comes off a season when he hit 43 home runs and contributed 128 RBI in 148 games.
"Josh had indicated recently ... told us that he felt it might be time to move on, but that we were still talking," said Texas general manager Jon Daniels.
"We had additional conversations this week that I thought had moved it along in a positive direction, but apparently not."
