CC Sabathia: Yankees ace gave up four hits during complete game
CC Sabathia pitched the New York Yankees to victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the deciding game of their American League Divisional Series.
Sabathia, who also took the win in the opening game of the five-match series, went all nine innings at Yankee Stadium, giving up four hits and striking out nine to see his side to a 3-1 success on the night and 3-2 in the series.
"It is what I am here for. It is what I play the game for," said the left-hander.
"I guess I should feel a little pressure or something like that, but I don't. I feel like that every time out."
Sabathia was backed by a run-scoring single from Raul Ibanez in the fifth, an RBI double off the wall by Ichiro Suzuki an inning later, and a long home run in the seventh by Curtis Granderson.
Baltimore mounted a challenge in the eighth, scoring a run and loading the bases with one out but Sabathia struck out Nate McLouth and retired JJ Hardy on a soft grounder to end the threat.
The Yankees advance to the best-of-seven American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers.
