Trainer Karl Burke believes Odeliz is up to competing at Group One level before the season is out following another excellent effort in defeat at the Curragh on Sunday.

Narrowly beaten on her seasonal reappearance in the Park Express Stakes at the home of Irish Flat racing in March, Odeliz has since been placed in the Middleton Stakes at York and the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom.

Pitched in at Pattern level again in Sunday's Kilboy Estate Stakes, the four-year-old was beaten less than a length into fourth and Burke feels it may have been an even better result had conditions been more testing.

Burke said: "It was a very good run and it's well publicised that to be at her most effective she needs cut in the ground.

"The rain came on Saturday night and without it I doubt we would have run, but it was still good, fast ground and she just can't quicken in it at that level.

"If the ground had been softer, I'm pretty sure we'd have seen a different result.

"I'm 90 per cent certain she'll stay in training next year, which is great news, and I think she could be competitive in a Group One when she gets her conditions, never mind win a Group race.

"She has plenty of options coming up. There is a Listed fillies' race at Clairefontaine and another race at Deauville next month.

"Her main aim for the year is the EP Taylor Stakes in Canada, so we want to make sure we have her at her best for that."
