Former Australia fly-half Matt Giteau has signed a new two-year deal with Toulon.

The playmaker, who moved to the French side in 2011 from the Brumbies in his native country, has the option for another 12 months.

The 31-year-old had been linked with a move to Racing Metro, with the Paris side reportedly ready to offer him a record-breaking contract.

But a statement on the club’s official website confirmed Giteau had reached a deal to stay with them until June 2016.

It said, “Toulon Rugby Club and Matt Giteau are happy to announce that they have reached an agreement for a contract extension for the Australian fly-half or centre for two seasons plus a one-season option.

"Matt Giteau will be tied to the red and black club until June 2016 as a minimum."
