Twickenham has been selected to host the inaugural final of the European Rugby Champions Cup.

The decision follows a successful bid by the Rugby Football Union during the tender process, which was open to the six countries whose clubs will partake in the tournament.

It will be the fifth time the home of the English national team has hosted the final of European club rugby’s top competition.

"The RFU's bid will guarantee the best possible financial return to the clubs," read a statement from European Professional Club Rugby.

EPCR director and executive committee member Bruce Craig added: "The RFU's bid was extremely strong,"

"The fact that we're going to London for the 2015 finals is hugely positive for European club rugby."

The Rugby Champions Cup is replacing the Heineken Cup as the top tier competition for clubs whose country's national team compete in the Six Nations Championship.

The final will be on Saturday 2nd May.

London will also provide the setting for the final of the European Rugby Challenge Cup with Twickenham Stoop, home to Harlequins, staging the event on 1st May.
