Warrington Wolves full-back Matty Russell has agreed a new four-year deal that will keep him at the Super League club until November 2017.

The Scotland international, who impressed during last year's World Cup, only joined the club from Gold Coast Titans on a two-year contract last October.

The 20-year-old has made two starts and three substitute appearances under Tony Smith as part of Warrington's slow start to the new campaign.

However, the former Wigan Warriors youngster has impressed sufficiently for Warrington to change his contract to a long-term arrangement.

"I'm really happy, first to start playing and then to be asked to have another two years extended onto my deal was great news. It's really positive," Russell told the club's official website.

Trophies

"This year I'm looking to cement my spot and keep up some good form and in the coming years I'd like to become a regular first-team player and make an impact in Super League and on the fans; maybe win a few trophies with Warrington as well.

"I am delighted. I think Matty has shown - in the short time that he has been here - what he is capable of and there is a lot more to come."
Smith on Russell

"I felt settled here before I was even playing and now I'm playing I'm happy."

Smith added: "I am delighted. I think Matty has shown - in the short time that he has been here - what he is capable of and there is a lot more to come.

"He's still learning aspects of the game and has certainly been very valuable to the team with his performances so far. I look forward to working with him and having him at the club for some time to come."

You can see Russell and co in action on Friday as Warrington tackle Widnes live on Sky Sports 1HD from 2.45pm
