The banning of the shoulder charge in Super League

"There were 300 players asked about the shoulder charge in Super League and they were all for it to remain. There are people in the sport who don't like it - Stevo is one of them - but rugby league is a contact sport. Player welfare is paramount and you cannot condone foul play like an illegal attack to an opponents' head, but there are plenty of good solid shots and the removal of the shoulder charge takes away a bit of the excitement that the fans like."

Leeds' defeat to Melbourne Storm in the World Club Challenge

"Leeds gave a good account of themselves and the stats of both teams were pretty equal, but you have got to take your opportunities when you are up against some of the best players in the world - Melbourne Storm had three of the best in Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith and Billy Slater - and sometimes the pass didn't quite come off; if it had done, Leeds could have won the game. The Rhinos usually defend the middle of the park very well, too, but missed tackles also cost them against Melbourne, who took the game very seriously."

Micky Higham's display during Warrington's victory over Hull FC

"He was understudy when he was at St Helens to Kieron Cunningham but he is now playing alongside Michael Monaghan for Warrington and is really enjoying his rugby. He has immense speed off the mark and likes to get his hand on the ball and attack, and is one of many players in that Wolves team, like Monaghan and Richie Myler, who push up in support. Warrington hit you with quick-fire tries and they did that against Hull FC."

The performace of St Helens' Jonny Lomax against Bradford

"Lomax is another English lad who has come through the system. He was switched from half-back to full-back for the win at Bradford but you knew he could come up with the goods. All he wants to do is run with the ball in his hand and perhaps taking the responsibility for organising set-pieces away from him and just letting him produce moments of magic gets the best out of him, like we've seen with Sam Tomkins at Wigan."

Salford's maiden win of the season over Hull KR

"Nobody gave Salford a chance heading into the game, but while Hull KR can score, they can also leak points. Lots of Salford players came up with some special plays, including Marc Sneyd, while they were also hungry to take their chances and go ahead. They should get a big lift; I'm not going to say they are going challenge for the top eight or make the Grand Final but it was a big win. I disagree with the late sendings off of Salford's Lee Jewitt and Hull KR's Adam Walker, though (after punches were thrown); it wasn't premeditated and was a just a bit of biffing in the scrum."
