Veteran American to consider his ring future after eighth pro defeat

Canelo Alvarez retained his WBC super-welterweight title with a unanimous points victory over Shane Mosley in Las Vegas. The 21-year-old Mexican was given the verdict over the American veteran 119-109 on two of the judges' scorecards, while the third had it 118-110. Alvarez shook off a cut over his left eye from a head butt in the third round and dominated the fight, landing big punches to the body and occasional uppercuts to the head. Mosley fought to the end and maintained his record of having never been stopped, although he never looked capable of stopping an opponent 19 years his junior.

Great experience

Alvarez, who was making the fourth successful defence of his belt, said: "It was a great experience. This is the beginning of my career. "Mayweather, Cotto, Pacquiao, I am ready." Mosley, on the other hand, admitted it could be time to hang up his gloves after suffering an eighth defeat of his long and illustrious professional career. 'Sugar' has not actually tasted victory since getting the better of Antonio Margarito back in January of 2009, losing to both Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Manny Pacquiao since, as well as drawing with Sergio Mora. Asked about retirement, the 40-year-old said: "It can look that way. When you get kids beating you up."
