Hampshire wicketkeeper Adam Wheater has been suspended for two matches under the England and Wales Cricket Board's disciplinary code.

Wheater, who becomes the first player this year to be banned, will now miss Hampshire's Royal London One-Day Cup matches against Northamptonshire on Friday and Worcestershire on Monday, both at the Ageas Bowl.

He committed a level-two breach of the rules by showing serious dissent against an umpire's decision by word or action during Hampshire's One-Day Cup defeat to Leicestershire on Wednesday.

Wheater had previously received a reprimand and three penalty points following two level-one breaches in August last year.

With the penalty for a subsequent level-two breach within 24 months being six penalty points, hitting nine in total has triggered the automatic ban.

Medium-pacer Matt Coles, meanwhile, has been reprimanded for a level-one breach, abuse of the cricket ground, equipment or fixtures/fittings, during the same game.
