Novak Djokovic overcame a mid-match lapse to move into the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The second seed raced into a 5-0 lead before securing the first set against Colombian Alejandro Gonzalez but the world No 91 hit back to level the match.

But Djokovic regained control with a demoralizing break in the second game of the third set, in which Gonzalez had nine game points before the Serbian star converted his first break chance.

Normal service was resumed thereafter, with Djokovic eventually winning 6-1 3-6 6-1.

"I thought I played really well from the start," two-time champion Djokovic said.

"Then suddenly I just had a big loss of concentration and allowed him to win the second set for no reason. I bounced back better in the third."

Croatian Marin Cilic awaits in the next round after he overcame 16th-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-4 6-3.

Cilic comes into Indian Wells in fine form after picking up titles in Zagreb and Delray Beach last month.

Spain's Fernando Verdasco upset world No 9 Richard Gasquet of France 7-6 6-2 to leave Djokovic as the only top-10 player left in the bottom half of the men's draw.

Roberto Bautista Agut held his nerve to beat Finland's Jarkko Nieminen 6-2 4-6 7-6 before Feliciano Lopez joined the Spanish Armada with a 1-6 6-3 6-4 defeat of Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan.

Bautista Agut will face Ernests Gulbis in the fourth round after the Latvian sprung something of a surprise by edging his way to a 2-6 6-1 7-5 victory over in-form 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov.
