Stephen Bunting shocked Phil Taylor 10-9 in the second round of the European Championship in Muelheim, Germany.

Bunting narrowly missed a nine-darter on his way to victory over the 16-time world champion, but held his nerve to secure one of the biggest wins of his PDC career.

Both players averaged over 100 in one of the best games of the event so far, with the opening 10 legs in the best-of-19 match producing 13 maximums.

Bunting missed double-seven to win the match at 9-8, Taylor levelling the scores and then taking an early advantage in the decider.

But Bunting hit a key 180 - his 10th of the match - and then finished on 68 to defeat Taylor and move into Sunday's quarter-finals.

Michael van Gerwen was pushed all the way by Brendan Dolan before beating the Irishman 10-8 to claim a place in the last-eight, where he was joined by fellow Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld, who beat Vincent van der Voort 10-7.

Jelle Klaasen made it three Dutchmen in the last eight with an impressive 10-7 win over Jamie Caven, the former Lakeside world champion hitting 10 maximums in a heavy-scoring match.
