France scrum-half William Barthau has been ruled out of his side's must-win European Championship match against Wales in Albi on Saturday with a knee injury.

Barthau, who left Catalans Dragons at the end of the 2014 season to join London Broncos, picked up the injury during France's surprise opening 22-12 defeat by Ireland in Dublin.

Coach Richard Agar has called up the uncapped Clement Boyer, from Toulouse, and former London and Catalans half-back Tony Gigot, now with Avignon.

The French, who are also without Thibaud Margalet due to eye problems, need to beat John Kear's Wales to keep alive their hopes of a place in the 2016 Four Nations Series.
