Amir Khan will face former world champion Devon Alexander in December, according to reports.

There has been continuous speculation about the British fighter’s next opponent and Robert Guerrero was also thought to be in the running, but Alexander is expected to be in the opposite corner in Las Vegas on December 13.

Khan is continuing his career at welterweight as he pursues long-term target Floyd Mayweather, while IBF champion Kell Brook is another possible foe for 2015.

Alexander was due to defend his title against Brook last year, but injuries to both fighters forced the bout to be cancelled and the St Louis man instead fought Shawn Porter, suffering a points defeat.

The tricky southpaw, who also held world titles at light-welterweight, has since returned with a wide points verdict over Jesus Soto Karass in June.

In his debut at the weight, Khan claimed a one-sided points win over Luis Collazo in May, flooring his opponent on three occasions.

He was unable to fight Mayweather in September because he was observing Ramadan, which would affect his preparations, and the American opted for a rematch against Marcos Maidana, winning easily on the judges' cards.
