Teddy Bridgewater has emerged as an injury concern for Minnesota ahead of Thursday’s trip to Green Bay.

The Vikings rookie, who has impressed since taking over from Christian Ponder at quarterback, suffered a sprained ankle during Sunday’s win over Atlanta.

Bridgewater passed for 317 yards and a crucial two-point conversion in his first career start under centre as the Vikings powered to a 41-28 victory against the Falcons.

But the 21-year-old, who also ran in his maiden touchdown in the NFL from 13 yards in the second quarter, rolled over on his ankle as he set up a third touchdown for Matt Asiata in the final period.

Bridgewater left the field on a cart and was sent for and MRI scan, which revealed he had sustained no serious damage to his left ankle, and he is confident he will be passed fit in time to take on the Packers at Lambeau Field.

"We have a long time until Thursday, so I just want to continue to rehab, do a little excising today and see where I am these next couple of days," said Bridgewater, who was held out of practice on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Detroit Lions tight end Joseph Fauria has revealed he suffered an ankle injury during a freak accident at home.

Fauria missed Sunday’s win over the New York Jets and is expected to be sidelined for “a few weeks” after slipping at home while trying to prevent his three-month old puppy from urinating in his house.

“I was hanging out with my dog and he did something bad and he ran away from me," Fauria said.

“I wasn't running downstairs, but I kind of like was doing it a little faster than usual and I missed the last two steps and my carpet goes to hardwood and I was wearing socks and I just put all my weight on my left foot and it was kind of in agonising pain."

The injury is the second bizarre setback to hit the Lions in as many seasons after wide receiver Nate Burleson broke his arm in a car crash last year while trying to stop pizza from sliding off his passenger seat.

Watch the Vikings take on the Packers live on Sky Sports 2, coverage begins at 1.25am on Friday morning.
