Celtic captain Charlie Mulgrew says the players have turned their attention to their Champions League play-off after the 6-1 drubbing of Dundee United.

Mulgrew has taken over the armband in the enforced absence of usual skipper Scott Brown and returned to the Hoops' midfield after suspension to help orchestrate the Celtic Park rout.

First-half Jason Denayer, Kris Commons and Stefan Johansen strikes put the result beyond doubt before Jo Inge Berget (2) and Anthony Stokes gave the scoreline an even more one-sided look.

Ronny Deila's men now meet Slovenia's NK Maribor in a play-off, the first leg away on Wednesday, to reach the group stages for another year.

Mulgrew said: "We're a couple of weeks further along the line now so it's up to us put on a better show.

"We are fitter now and have played more games now, as the teams we came up against had played more league games than us.

"We're also getting to know the manager and the way he wants us to play a bit more so that's all going to help."

There will be the added momentum of a second chance to grasp the opportunity and get to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

"We're not getting too ahead of ourselves," he said, "as we've still got a tough tie ahead of us and we're going to do all we can to get through that, but we're definitely grateful for getting another chance.

"We will definitely be up for it and looking to put on a much better show.

"It can only help us as a team by getting into the Champions League and playing at the highest level but we've got a tough tie before we get there so we're not overlooking that.

"We're just taking each game as it comes and we want to be ready for the Champions League qualifier when it comes."
