Widnes Vikings CEO James Rule has thanked the club's supporters for their "overwhelming response" to his request for information on the pitch invasion at Sunday's Tetley's Challenge Cup semi-final.

The Vikings went down 28-6 to Castleford Tigers and the end of the game saw some unsavoury scenes, with around 100 supporters invading the pitch.

Amid the chaos, both Castleford mascots were punched, with one a head from one of the costumes being kicked around the field.

"It's evident from the overnight response that our genuine supporters are as disappointed and frustrated by the scenes as everybody is within the club."

Rule confirmed that Vikings fans had responded in large numbers with details of the offenders, saying: "It's evident from the overnight response that our genuine supporters are as disappointed and frustrated by the scenes as everybody is within the club.

"We've had an overwhelming response and the information we have received will be invaluable in conducting a thorough investigation.

"I wish to thank the supporters for supplying this information and would encourage anybody with any details to continue to supply that to the club which will then be submitted and utilised within the investigation process.

"Together we can take the first steps of rebuilding our reputation."
