And Kyrgios, who made his name by knocking out 14-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal and Frenchman Richard Gasquet on his unlikely march into the Wimbledon quarter-finals, will prove a major test for the Scot.

The prodigious talent of the lanky 19-year-old from Canberra was on show on Tuesday when he backed up his growing big-match reputation with his 94-minute victory over the experienced Colombian Santiago Giraldo 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 to set up a meeting with Murray.

Kyrgios played fearless tennis as he trailed Giraldo 5-2 in the opening set, with the wild card winning the opener in a tiebreak. He claimed victory on his third match point in the second set after breaking the South American in the final game.

Big occasion

Kyrgios admits that taking on eighth-seeded Murray would be another huge challenge, but he will relish the occasion.
