Danny Williams: Hoping to continue plying his trade under James Lowes at Braford Bulls
Winger Danny Williams hopes his loan spell at Bradford Bulls will be extended in time to feature in Friday’s derby clash with Leeds Rhinos.
The Salford Red Devils flyer has spent the last month at Odsal and despite their relegation to the Championship, Williams is eager to make his stay permanent.
Williams’ current loan deal expired following Sunday’s surprise 16-8 win against defending champions Wigan Warriors, which saw the 27-year-old score his first Bulls try.
"I'm enjoying it and if everything is good for both parties then hopefully I will be here next year."
Childhood Rhinos fan Williams rose through the ranks with Leeds and admits the prospect of playing in one of Super League’s fiercest derbies once again is something he would relish.
"I'm really enjoying my rugby here and I want to stay,” he told the Telegraph and Argus. "Hopefully that will happen and it would be great to play in the Leeds-Bradford derby for the Bulls.
"I grew up in Leeds supporting the Rhinos and went on to play for them, so I know all about the Leeds-Bradford rivalry.
"I've played in this fixture a few times as a Leeds player and it would be good to go there as a Bradford player.”
Defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Giants in Round 21 confirmed Bradford’s relegation, but their response was emphatic as they earned a first win under the tutelage of James Lowes and Williams is targeting more of the same.
"It would be even better if we get the same result as against Wigan on Sunday,” he added.
Williams’ contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season and Lowes has already outlined his desire to snap up the free agent.
"I'm enjoying it and if everything is good for both parties then hopefully I will be here next year.
"I need to sort out the loan first - stay here for the rest of the season and then we can look to sort out next year. I've loved my time here and am keen to stay."
