Afghanistan kept their one-day series against Zimbabwe alive with a dramatic two-wicket win at Bulawayo on Tuesday.

Hamilton Masakadza top scored with 84 and captain Brendan Taylor also added a half-century as the hosts posted a respectable 261-8 in their innings.

But Javed Ahmadi scored 56 in an impressive opening partnership with Usman Ghani (43) for Afghanistan and some explosive late hitting from Dawlat Zadran (24 not out off seven) saw them to victory with two balls to spare.

The tourists now trail 2-1 in the four-match series.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to field but the decision did not pay instant dividends with Sikandar Raza the first wicket to fall with 36 on the board.

Masakadza and Taylor then put on 109 for the second wicket to give Zimbabwe a solid platform but the former fell when caught by Nasir Jamal off the bowling of Aftab Alam.

Promising

Taylor then brought up his 50 but fell for just three more as he was run out, but Sean Williams made sure the innings did not collapse with 49 and the score was 225 for five when he fell off the final ball of the 45th over.

A quickfire 20 off 15 balls from Elton Chigumbura and 13 off nine from Timycen Maruma helped edge the score over 250 before a late clatter of wickets slowed the momentum.

Ahmadi and Ghani put on 83 for the first wicket as Afghanistan made a promising start to their reply but after Ghani fell for 43, Noor Ali Zadran quickly followed for a duck.

Ahmadi (56) was next to go but when Samiullah Shenwari and Nasir Jamal put on 54 for the fourth wicket, the tourists needed 96 off 95 balls.

Mohammad Nabi added 42 off 40 balls to guide Afghanistan towards their target and Zadran clubbed 24 off seven balls, including the winning six, to see them reach 264-8 with two balls to spare.
