World champion Marc Marquez maintained his perfect MotoGP record this season as he made it nine wins from nine in a rain-affected German Grand Prix.

Marquez led home Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa in second, with Jorge Lorenzo completing the podium and Valentino Rossi taking fourth place.

The Sachsenring track was already wet for race, but when the threat of further rain failed to materialise a farcical start ensued as a group of 14 riders got caught trying to switch tyres at the last moment and had to wait in the pit-lane until the bikes already on the grid had gone past.

Marquez, who was on pole, was one of those affected and it meant that home rider Stefan Bradl – the reigning Moto2 world champion – took advantage to claim the early lead.

But as things began to settle down the cream rose to top and Marquez passed the German on lap six with Pedrosa emerging as his only real challenger.

Always in control

With the Honda duo having pulled clear of the rest of the field, Pedrosa managed to stay in touch with Marquez, but he could never seriously threaten the impeccable 21-year-old who took chequered flag by about a second and a half from his compatriot.

"It was tough and when I saw (Stefan) Bradl changing tyres at the beginning, I thought that was the right choice because there was only one corner that was completely wet so I went in," explained Marquez afterwards.

"Everyone went in (to change tyres) and my main rivals are Dani (Pedrosa) and Valentino (Rossi) so when I saw them go in, I followed but it worked out ok.

“It is marvellous this run I am on, scarcely believable.”

Marquez now has the maximum 225 points available from the nine races thus far with Pedrosa 77 back in second and Rossi a further seven back in third spot.
