Ryuichi Kiyonari secured pole position for Sunday's MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship round at Knockhill.
The Japanese rider powered in a last-minute scorcher at the Scottish venue to claim his first pole start in four years.
The Buildbase BMW rider, a three-time series champion, lapped the short Fife track in 48.112secs, just enough to eclipse Australia's Josh Brookes, who had been setting the pace on his Milwaukee Yamaha, by 0.004secs.
Series-leading Shane Byrne completes the front row of the grid aboard the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki, a further split second down.
Byrne eased his team-mate Stuart Easton back into fourth place, and he starts on the second row alongside James Ellison and James Westmoreland.
