Marc Marquez: Storms to seventh consecutive race win of the season
Marc Marquez made it seven wins from seven races this season after a thrilling duel with compatriot Dani Pedrosa on the final lap of the Catalunya Grand Prix on Sunday.
Starting from second on the grid, Marquez had to wait till six laps from the end before overtaking long-time race leader Valentino Rossi.
The 21-year-old Spaniard then had to stave off the threat of Repsol Honda team-mate Pedrosa with the two Spaniards going wheel-to-wheel for much of the last two laps.
Pedrosa, who has only just returned from arm pump surgery, did well to stay on his bike after his front tyre clipped Marquez’s rear on the final lap allowing Rossi to snatch second place.
Jorge Lorenzo finished in fourth ahead of Andrea Dovizzioso and Alvaro Bautista.
The win for reigning world champion Marquez was the 13th MotoGP victory of his career and the 100th victory for Honda in the modern four-stroke MotoGP era.
Marquez’s younger brother Alex won the Moto3 race - the first time in 65 years of World Championship competition that siblings have won Grand Prix races on the same day.
Esteve Rabat won from pole position in the Moto2 race to extend his championship lead over Mika Kallio to 34 points.
The next MotoGP race is at Assen on June 28. The Netherlands date is the oldest on the championship calendar and is the only race that takes place on a Saturday.
