Parramatta Eels star Will Hopoate has been recalled to the New South Wales team for the crucial second State of Origin clash against Queensland.

The 22-year-old returns three seasons after making his debut in the series following a break from rugby league to work as a Mormon missionary.

Coach Laurie Daley believes Hopoate, who will be on the wing in the crucial June 18 clash, and Josh Dugan of St George Illawarra are the best replacements for injured brothers Brett and Josh Morris.

"We've opted for experience, guys that we believe will get the job done," said Daley, whose side won the opening clash 12-8 in Brisbane as they seek to break Queensland's eight-year dominance in Origin.

Daley added Hopoate deserved his place for being "really strong after coming back from a two-year absence."

Gold Coast's Greg Bird also returns from suspension for the clash, while skipper Paul Gallen moves to the front row as prop.

Opponents Queensland named a 22-man squad on Monday to deal with injury concerns, including to Test centre Greg Inglis (ankle) and Billy Slater (shoulder).
