Arsenal Ladies manager Shelley Kerr is to step down from her position following next weekend’s FA Women’s Cup final against Everton.

Kerr announced her intention to quit after seeing her team lose a third successive game as they went down 2-0 to Bristol Academy in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

She told Arsenal’s official website: "I've had a fantastic 16 months with Arsenal, but feel this is the right time to step aside.

"It's been a privilege to manage one of the leading sides in the women's game, and to work with so many talented players.

“I would like to thank the club for that opportunity, and hope to bring my spell with Arsenal to a successful close on Sunday, with the defence of the FA Cup."

Kerr guided Arsenal to an FA Women's Cup and Continental Cup double last year in her first season in charge.

A club statement read: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Shelley for her contribution to the club, and to wish her the very best for the future.

“The club will now begin the process of recruiting a new Arsenal Ladies manager and will make an announcement once an appointment has been made.”
