Wakefield have signed Richard Owen from rivals Castleford for the rest of the Super League season.

The 24-year-old has made over a century of appearances for the Tigers, scoring 56 tries, but has struggled to break into Daryl Powell's side this year, playing in just five matches.

Despite crossing six times in the limited opportunities he has had this year, Owen has been allowed to leave the Mend-A-Hose Jungle and make the short journey to Wakefield in the hope of gaining more first-team action.

The utility back trained with his new team-mates on Thursday and could yet feature against his former club on Sunday at Magic Weekend in Manchester.

"I did eight years at Castleford and it's a new start and a new challenge," he told the Wildcats' official website. "I think it's what I needed and it'll do me the world of good.

"It's a growing club here. They haven't had the best of starts and are just starting to hit some form. It's something I want to be part of."

Michael Carter, Wakefield chairman, added: "We're really pleased to welcome Richard to the club and I'd like to go on record to thank (chief executive) Steve Gill and Castleford Tigers for their part in helping make this deal a smooth one."
