Wigan prop Sam Hopkins has returned to former club Leigh Centurions on a one-month loan deal.

The front-row forward joined the Warriors on a two-year deal in 2013 and did feature for the reigning Super League champions during pre-season action ahead of the start of the current campaign.

However he has now been allowed to head back to his old employers to get some matches under his belt - starting with Sunday's clash with Rochdale.

Leigh coach Paul Rowley will be allowed to include Hopkins in his squad for the Tetley's Challenge Cup fourth round tie against the Hornets at Spotland.

"The one-month loan provides Sam with an opportunity to get some important game time in a tough Championship competition," Wigan rugby manager, Kris Radlinski, said.

"Sam has worked extremely hard since becoming a full-time professional and is making huge strides with us but he needs to play regularly and this agreement with Leigh works well for all parties concerned. "

Wigan are in cup action themselves on Friday night, beginning their bid to retain the trophy they won at Wembley last year with a trip to Dewsbury Rams.
