Nicolas Anelka: Denies FA charge of aggravated misconduct
A decision in the Nicolas Anelka 'quenelle' case is expected some time in the next 24 hours.
A hearing into the West Brom striker's controversial December goal celebration is into a third day, and he faces a minimum five-match ban if an independent panel upholds the Football Association's aggravated misconduct charge.
Anelka has always maintained the 'quenelle', which has been associated with anti-Semitism by some French politicians, was merely an "anti-establishment" gesture made in support of the comedian who invented it.
All the evidence has now been heard, and a panel comprising an independent QC, a former player or manager and a member of the FA council is deliberating on a verdict.
The key to the outcome is their verdict on whether Anelka's actions were racially or religiously motivated, something he denies.
