Ryan Miller: Made 36 saves as the Sabres saw off the Hurricanes
Christian Ehrhoff scored twice, including a late winner, to help rock-bottom Buffalo Sabres beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2, as the NHL returned to action returned following the Winter Olympics.
After a goalless first period, Ehrhoff gave the sabres a 1-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season in a second-period powerplay, after an assist from Drew Stafford.
Hurricanes captain Eric Staal restored parity with three minutes to play in the second; breaking through 3-on-2 with Alexander Semin and Justin Faulk, but the Canadian opted to go solo and slotted beyond Ryan Miller.
Despite boasting a far superior shot count, Carolina found themselves behind again in the third period as Buffalo edged ahead through a Tyler Ennis strike.
With just four minutes on the clock, Semin brought the Hurricanes level with his 15th goal of the season, firing a wrist shot past Miller.
There was one final twist however, as Ehrhoff completed his brace with only 43.4 seconds to play, securing victory for the Sabres.
Miller, who Buffalo have confirmed is on the trading block, made 36 saves for the Sabres on the night.
