Top seed Klara Zakopalova ended the hopes of local favourite Teliana Pereira in the semi-finals of the Rio Open.

Czech Zakopalova saw off her Brazilian opponent 6-2 6-1 and will take on fifth seed Kurumi Nara for the title on Sunday.

Japanese university student Nara overcame Italy's Nastassja Burnett 6-4 3-6 6-2 in her last-four match.

"I'm very surprised because it's on a claycourt," said Nara, who prefers hardcourts.

World No 35 Zakopalova won two WTA Tour titles in 2005 but has since lost 11 finals, while world No 62 Nara will be appearing in her first final in the top tier.
