Italy are hopeful that Mauro Bergamasco and Martin Castrogiovanni will be passed fit to face Scotland on Saturday.

Flanker Bergamasco and prop Castrogiovanni both sat out training on Monday to have treatment on injuries ahead of the Six Nations battle in Rome.

Castrogiovanni is struggling with a right heel problem, while Bergamasco suffered a thigh injury during the 30-10 defeat to France in Paris on February 9.

But team manager Luigi Troiani is confident that both will be able to return to training on Thursday.

"We are approaching this week with focus and calmness," Troiani told

"We are aware that the expectations regarding our home game against Scotland are high.

"We are coming off two games in which we have displayed good things but struggled to be consistent.

"This is something we will have to improve on against Scotland.

"Regarding Castrogiovanni and Bergamasco, we are looking to have both of them back in training with the rest of the group on Thursday."

The Azzurri, coached by Jacques Brunel, are looking for their first win of the campaign after losing 23-15 to Wales in Cardiff in their Six Nations opener and falling in Paris to France a week later.

Italy have already sold 120,000 tickets for their home games - against Scotland and against England on March 15 - at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.
