Craig Overton: Heading for South Africa to prepare for season

Sky Bet

Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton hopes a stint in South Africa will prepare him for an injury-free 2014 season.

Overton, 19, will spend three weeks with the England Potential Emerging Player Programme's fast-bowling group in Potchefstroom before linking up with his county team-mates for a pre-season camp in Pretoria.

He missed much of last season with a stress fracture in his back and had to watch from the sidelines as twin brother Jamie impressed England's selectors enough to earn a place in the Lions squad.

Craig Overton said: "Since Christmas I have been up at Loughborough and have only been back here in Taunton on Thursday and Friday, where I have been working on both my batting and bowling.

"It is all going along very nicely for me. My batting is going on well and the bowling is all good too.

"I have had no pain, which is perfect, so I should be ready for the new season.

"The weather here is not good so to get the chance to go out and work in the sun for five weeks is just fantastic."
