Scotland will play England in the World Cup next year after they beat the United Arab Emirates by 41 runs in the qualifying competition final.

Captain Preston Mommsen smashed a brilliant unbeaten 139, rescuing his team from 37-3, as Scotland scored 285-5 in their 50 overs in Lincoln, New Zealand.

And the UAE could only muster 244-9 in reply to ensure Scotland go into group A - along with England - in next year's World Cup which takes place in Australia and New Zealand.

Mommsen played a captain's role with his side in trouble, but he shared partnerships of 91 with Freddie Coleman (31) and 138 with Richie Berrington (63).

Swapnil Patil then fought a lone battle for the UAE and he finished, agonisingly, in 99, with Rob Taylor - one to watch for Leicestershire this summer - Safyaan Sharif and Iain Wardlaw all claiming three wickets apiece.

Both sides had already booked their place at next year's jamboree by finishing in the top two of the Super Six stage of the qualifying competition.

As well as England, Scotland will face Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

UAE will face South Africa, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Ireland in Pool B.
