Craig Gardner: Has fallen out of favour at Sunderland

Sky Bet

Sky sources understand that West Brom have made a late attempt to sign Craig Gardner from Sunderland on deadline day.

Gardner's contract at Sunderland runs out in the summer and manager Gus Poyet may be willing to cash in on the midfielder.

The 27-year-old struggled to settle in Sunderland when he initially arrived from Aston Villa in 2011 and might welcome a move back to the Midlands with West Brom.

Gardner has been restricted to substitute appearances in recent months following the arrival of Poyet and his spell on Wearside could end in the next few hours.
