Jake Ball: Is in the Wales squad for the clash with Italy

Wales have announced that Scarlets lock forward Jake Ball has been officially called into their squad for the upcoming Six Nations championship.

The uncapped 22-year-old has been training with the defending champions ahead of Saturday's tournament-opening clash with Italy in Cardiff.

Wales are bidding to win the event for the third season in succession but will be without Ospreys second row man Ian Evans for the duration of the event.

Evans, who has been capped 32 times and went to Australia with the Lions last summer, is suspended until April, having been handed a 12-week ban after he was sent off for stamping during a Heineken Cup loss to Leinster in Dublin earlier this month.
