The National Hunt fixture at Ludlow on Thursday must survive an 8.30am inspection on Wednesday.

With the track heavy, soft in places, officials at the Shropshire venue are taking no chances.

Sixty-seven millimetres of rain has fallen from January 1-10, with more showers forecast on Wednesday.

Ludlow's meeting last Wednesday was abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Clerk of the course Bob Davies said: "It all depends on how much rain we get. We're raceable today.

"The Met Office says heavy rain overnight but another website says 6mm. If that's all we get we'll be fine but if it was half an inch or something then we'd struggle.

"It's just a case of waiting to see what comes."
