Ducati have added former Superbike team manager Davide Tardozzi to their MotoGP staff for the 2014 season.

The Italian, the winner of the first ever Superbike World Championship race in 1988, led the manufacturer's assault on the series for almost 20 years, winning titles with the likes of Carl Fogarty, Troy Bayliss and James Toseland.

He left to join BMW in 2010, but left after one season and will now have responsibility for "the organization and logistics" of the MotoGP team, who have Briton Cal Crutchlow and Italy's Andrea Dovizioso in their riding line-up.

A Ducati statement said: "Davide Tardozzi will report directly to Paolo Ciabatti, Ducati Corse Sporting Director and MotoGP Programme Director, and will begin his new role in the Ducati Team starting with the first MotoGP test at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia from February 4 to 6."
