Cheltenham captain Russell Penn has moved to League Two rivals York City for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Minstermen having found his first-team opportunities restricted in recent months since the arrival of Rotherham loanee David Noble. "Russ has been a fantastic servant for this club," manager Mark Yates told the club's official website. "I have worked with him for six or seven years and during that time his desire and effort has been unquestionable. I understand his need to play and at the minute I am not guaranteeing it for him - I know what that is like. "We wish him well for his family and his career." Penn made 124 appearances during his time with the club and scored four times. York manager Nigel Worthington was delighted Penn chose to end his stay at Whaddon Road to link up with his side for an undisclosed fee. "He's a player that I've admired for some time and have watched him on numerous occasions," Worthington told the club's official website. "I'm delighted to get him on board from the point of view that he's a very experienced player with a good knowledge of the play-offs. To have that within our group, which is quite a young group, is very, very valuable." Penn said: "I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to the next six months of the season. The team have had some positive results in the last week and we have to try and kick on."
