Deep Trouble: Set to miss the Tolworth for easier option
Deep Trouble is likely to stick to handicap company when he bids to land a second course-and-distance success at Sandown on Saturday.
Trainer Ben Case is leaning towards the 32Red Handicap Hurdle for the seven-year-old rather than the Grade One 32Red Tolworth Hurdle Novices' Hurdle over the same extended two miles.
"I think the sensible option is to go for the handicap. That's the plan," said the Banbury handler.
"He's in good form. We're very happy with him. Daryl (Jacob) schooled him on Tuesday. He schooled well and I'm pleased with the horse at the moment.
"I'm not sure if Daryl will ride him. I think he's going to Wincanton, so Leighton (Aspell) will ride him if Daryl's there, I guess."
Deep Trouble lifted the December Handicap Hurdle at the Esher venue despite nearly throwing the race away after jinking right at the final flight and veering to the far rail, with Aspell's feet out of both irons.
