Lee Johnson: Full of praise for former Latic
Oldham manager Lee Johnson praised Jose Baxter after watching the forward score a Blades equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.
Former Latics loanee Baxter's memorable second-half free-kick cancelled out Jonson Clarke-Harris' opener for the visitors and ensured United stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven games ahead of Sunday's visit of fellow strugglers Tranmere.
Johnson, who lost Baxter's services earlier this season, said: "We know only too well here what Jose is capable of and he showed that out there.
"That's why Sheffield United paid what they did for him and arguably it's cost us. But, at the end of the day, I'm not going to be too picky because I thought that was a good point for us.
"We started well and I thought they played into our game plan to begin with. But, as the match wore on, I've got to be honest and say that United came right back into it.
"So, in that regard, it was probably a fair outcome and a fair point.
"We'd spoken about how dangerous Jose could be from those situations beforehand but when someone strikes a ball as well as he does, often there is very little that you can do.
"And that was one such instance. All in all, I'm pleased with how my lads did out there against a good team with some very good players. We showed we've got good players too."
