Ashley Giles was impressed with the performance of Tim Bresnan on day two of the England Performance Programme's fixture against Queensland 2nd XI in Brisbane.

Bresnan is trying to prove his fitness to join the full England squad for the second Ashes Test in Adelaide next week after a stress fracture of the back.

He began well with an unbeaten half-century in the EPP's 376-9 on Wednesday at Allan Border Field, and on day two of three he proved his worth with the ball too as he finished with 4-31 in the hosts' 156 all out.

After Joe Burns' unbeaten 97 had dominated the Queensland innings, the EPP reached stumps in control on 156-5 thanks to Ben Foakes' unbeaten 52.

"It's always good to see someone like Bresnan back up and fit and firing," said EPP coach Giles.

"He bowled well today, with good control and at a decent pace. To pick up the wickets was a bonus.

"I think the most important thing for us was that he through the day strongly."
