Scotland lock Jim Hamilton will win his 50th cap when he lines up against Australia at Murrayfield on Saturday.

The Montpellier forward became Scotland's 1,000th capped player in November 2006 when he made his debut in a home Test against Romania, but the 31-year-old insists he never expected to have such a long international career.

He said: "It feels a wee bit surreal that I've made it this far and that I'm still going.

"It's great to reach this milestone but it's something I'm sure that I will look back on more after my rugby career is finished and realise the achievement I've made.

"It's not something I ever envisioned accomplishing. I never thought when I was younger that I'd be lucky enough to be in the position that I am now.

Humbled

"But I'm very humbled by the fact I have managed to get to this point."

Scotland will be hoping to bounce back from last weekend's 28-0 defeat to South Africa when they face the Wallabies but Hamilton insists they have already put that result behind them.

"It was a negative result but there were some good parts of that game," he said. "As a squad those are the bits we need to focus on.

"There's not much time to prepare for Australia, we only have a six-day turnaround and we can't dwell on last Sunday. We don't have the time so we need to move on.

"Obviously we are now going to face another very good team so we need to pull all the stops out to make sure we get a more positive result."
