Scott Williams: Picked up a minor foot injury in win over Argentina

Scott Williams looks set to offer Wales coach Warren Gatland a much needed injury boost despite picking up an injury in the win over Argentina.

The Scarlets centre left the Millennium Stadium with his right foot in a protective boot after Wales cruised to a 40-6 victory over the Pumas.

Test debutant Cory Allen suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder in the same game, while British and Irish Lions Test stars Jonathan Davies and Jamie Roberts are already on the sidelines.

Allen's Blues team-mate Owen Williams is not due back in training until this week, to leave Ashley Beck as Gatland's only fully fit centre ahead of Friday night's test with Tonga.

"I will be strapped to the ice machine over the next 24 hours and see how it is. Hopefully, I will be back in training on Monday or Tuesday."

But the prognosis on Williams is positive and the player himself is hopeful of returning to training early in the week.

"Someone landed on the back of my leg and it twisted, and my big toe just stretched, but it was nothing to come off for," said Williams.

Precautionary

"It (the protective boot) is precautionary more than anything, and it is just to stop my big toe bending over in the next couple of days.

"I will be strapped to the ice machine over the next 24 hours and see how it is. Hopefully, I will be back in training on Monday or Tuesday."

Gatland also refused to panic at the extent of his side's injury problems, insisting they are flexible enough to remain competitive.

"We are a bit short at the moment, although we are lucky we have got Owen Williams coming back to full training, and we will see what the prognosis is with Scott," he said.

"We might be all right with Owen and Ashley, and if Scott's all right.

"We are a bit short of wingers as well because we did speak about George North playing potentially in the centre."
