Brian Meehan: High hopes of Spark Plug
Spark Plug bids to light up the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Houghton Conditions Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday.
The entire card, which consists of six races including five that are restricted to two-year-olds, has been sponsored by the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association.
Spark Plug is one of two unbeaten colts in a five-strong line-up for the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Houghton Conditions Stakes, a £14,000 event run over one mile.
His trainer, Brian Meehan, has won this race twice in the past four years. He said: "Spark Plug is a nice horse, he looked very good when he won at Bathand we like him a lot.
"It was first time out [at Bath] and he was in front for a long way and ran green. The form has since been franked. My one worry would be the likely soft ground - we are not sure if he will act on it."
Louise Kemble, Chief Executive of the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, said: "The Thoroughbred Breeders' Association is delighted to be sponsoring the card at Newmarket.
"In creating this day with Newmarket Racecourses it is our intention to provide important and timely race opportunities, mainly for two-year-old colts and fillies.
"Following a successful sales season for breeders, we hope this initiative will be well received by all horsemen. With free admission for both Thoroughbred Breeders' Association members and Next Generation Club members we are looking forward to a great day of racing for everyone involved."
The action gets under way at 2.30pm with the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Median Auction Maiden Fillies' Stakes and runs through until 5.20pm when the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Nursery Handicap comes under orders.
