Warriors' winger Pat Richards will have his named etched in Wigan history forever after the club announced a room at their training ground will be named after him.

The Australian-born back rounded off his eight-year spell in the Super League by holding aloft the coveted trophy as Wigan beat Warrington Wolves in the Grand Final on Saturday.

Richards, 31, who is set to return to West Tigers in the NRL in 2014, bowed out in fitting fashion with the last of the Warriors' five tries in the 30-16 victory which saw Wigan become the first side to complete a league and cup double since St Helens in 2006.

Saturday's touchdown at Old Trafford elevated Richards into sixth place in Super League's list of all-time leading try-scorers with 147 scores and Warriors teammate Blake Green was delighted to reveal the honour bestowed upon the winger.

"I'm very happy for Paddy," he said. "He's got a room at our training facility named after him.

"Our video room is called the Pat Richards Room so his legacy will be there forever.

"He holds a special place in the club's history and what a way for him to go out."

Richards, who was named Super League's Man of Steel in 2010, kicked his fifth goal of the Grand Final in the closing stages to round off his Wigan career with 2,468 points from 224 appearances.

The prolific winger, whose late father was born in Dublin, will remain on British soil to compete in the Rugby League World Cup for Ireland before returning to Sydney.
