Wigan coach Shaun Wane felt his side coped with the wet conditions really well in their 22-8 victory over Huddersfield in the qualifying play-off tie.

The Warriors are now one victory away from the Grand Final, having recovered from the concession of an early try to secure a comfortable victory over the Super League table-toppers.

"I thought it was a great performance," said Wane. "We defended tough and came up with a really good conservative game.

"I thought we completed the sets that were really important. We still made errors but our completion rate was good in those conditions.

"We showed in the first half that, when we kept hold of the ball, we could score.

"But we're not getting carried away. It was a good win against worthy league leaders but we've still got two games to play."

Wane had particular praise for Pat Richards, who kicked very well in awkward conditions, and hooker Michael McIlorum, who managed to play for the whole 80 minutes.

"We kept sending messages on but he said he was good to carry on," said Wane. "He showed his desire, he's really competitive."

Anderson not happy

Huddersfield will get another chance next Thursday but coach Paul Anderson was not happy with their display.

"It was the worst performance we've had for a long time," he said. "The Giants 2013 is not about one-out rugby.

"They asked more questions than we did. We took one or two short cuts and didn't show a great deal of honesty at times.

"We weren't great but that's out of our system, so let's move on."

Anderson had rested 13 of his players for the final game of the regular season at Bradford and added: "You could see Wigan were a bit more battle-hardened.

"We couldn't win a tackle, they were rolling through us at times.

"It showed we needed a game. Whether it was the right decision to rest the players last week, only time will tell."
