Ravi Bopara is congratulated on his first ODI hundred in Dublin
Ravi Bopara will take on Australia in the first one-day international hoping to prove he has an Ashes future.
The Essex batsman played the last of his 13 Tests more than a year ago but has remained part of England's limited-overs sides.
A significant breakthrough came in Dublin earlier this week when Bopara struck an unbeaten hundred - his first in 90 ODI appearances.
Bopara hopeful on making Ashes squad
And the 28-year-old is confident a series of strong performances in the five-match series against the Aussies - starting at Headingley on Friday, weather-permitting - will make the selectors consider him for a Test recall this winter.
He told Sky Sports News: "I don't know where I stand right now, but I know I've got to get runs - it's a simple formula.
"If you keep putting results on the board, knocking at that door, eventually someone's going to open it.
"They can only ignore you for so long if you're knocking at the door and scoring runs.
"My plan is to be annoying, just tick along at that door and hopefully one day someone comes along and opens it and i get my chance."
Heavy rain is forecast for much of Friday, and the scheduled start time of 10.15 has already been delayed.
