Sam Tomkins: Attracted by the NRL competition
Sam Tomkins has told Sky Sports News that reports he has already signed a deal with an NRL club are wide of the mark.
Super League's Man of Steel has long been linked with a move to New Zealand or Australia, where his England team-mates Sam Burgess and Gareth Widdop are already based, and makes no secret of his admiration for the southern hemisphere competition.
Tomkins' former Wigan team-mate Thomas Leuluai returned home last year to join the New Zealand Warriors, and some reports from the country claim a two-year contract has already been sorted.
But the England full-back, who helped his side thrash London Broncos in the Challenge Cup semi-finals at the weekend, says his whole focus for now is on Wigan's pursuit of both the Grand Final trophy and Wembley glory.
"There's a bit of interest, Tomkins said. "But I've not signed a contract with any NRL club, I'm firmly concentrating on Wigan.
"I'm aware of strong rumours I'll be moving to a few different clubs, but I can say hand on heart I've not signed any contract yet.
"I've a good friend Thomas Leuluai who plays at New Zealand Warriors, and Sam Burgess and Gareth Widdop are over in Australia.
"I'm aware of strong rumours I'll be moving to a few different clubs, but I can say hand on heart I've not signed any contract yet."
"I've spoken to them since they left, so it's not like I'm just speaking to them now to get an idea of what its like over there.
"But they love it, and there is certainly an attraction to the NRL - it's a tougher competition than Super League, I think that's fair to say, they've got a consistent level right through the league which attracts good players.
"But Super League's certainly not to be left out of that, we've got a great competition and some great teams that have been battling it out all season."
